Melissa Perez Gelt, the General Manager of brand new neighborhood business Diskin Cider, brought some cider for neighbors to sample! She expressed how happy Diskin is to be operating in the neighborhood. Our Executive Director, Kat Jones, sat down with the Diskin team recently - stay tuned for a blog post about it! Here are the current hours for their tasting room:
Thursday 4-9PM
Friday 4-11PM
Saturday 12-11PM
Sunday 12-6PM
Councilman Colby Sledge attended to talk about neighborhood updates and take questions. He promoted the Fairgrounds Nashville master plan revision process being led by the Nashville Civic Design Center; you can read about their final presentation, which is based on community input, here.
Colby noted the recent approval of a four-way stop at the Martin/Merritt intersection, which is now installed! Thanks you to all neighbors who attended the Traffic and Parking Commission meeting or wrote letters in support of the four-way stop. Colby also reported that a portion of Martin is getting repaved soon and that he is working on a sidewalk and water upgrade on Allison.
Colby is investigating the following requests from neighbors made at the meeting:
Speed bumps/rumble strips in high-traffic areas? Colby said it is "nearly impossible" to get the commission to approve speed bumps, due to he expense of their upkeep. But he is investigating the potential use of rumble strips like those installed on Edgehill between 12th and 8th. He has also requested additional police speeding patrols on Hamilton, Martin, and Moore.
Crosswalks at the new Martin/Merritt four-way stop and at the Martin/Hamilton intersection? Colby said that the city may only install crosswalks on the sides of the intersection that have sidewalks.
Reducing the speed limit on Hamilton/other streets? Colby said we can appeal to the Traffic and Parking Commission the same way we requested the Martin/Merritt four-way stop.
Odessa and Anne from Stand UP Nashville, a coalition of community organizations promoting economic opportunity for all Nashville residents, came to update us on their negotiations with the MLS franchise for a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) that would be attached to final approval of the construction of the soccer stadium. Potential items in a CBA could include a standard of job benefits at the stadium, affordable housing requirements, and other neighborhood benefits at the stadium and adjacent 10-acre development. Stand UP reported that the MLS franchise is working productively with them on a CBA.
Stand UP passed out surveys of priorities neighbors want to see in the CBA. If you haven't had the chance to fill out one of these surveys, you can contact Stand UP here. The coalition will eventually produce a term sheet of CBA requirements and has a goal date for a completed CBA of August 1. Stay tuned for more developments on this front!
Hope to see you at our June 18 community meeting!
